Running X6
X6 runs on macOS with Python 3 and nothing else to install. It listens on 127.0.0.1 only.
-
Start the server with a workspace folder. The workspace is the only folder X6’s file and command tools can use.
Terminal window python3 x6-chat.py --workspace ~/x6-workspace -
Provide keys. On first start X6 asks for each key at a hidden prompt and offers to save it in the macOS Keychain. Only the model key is required; search keys are optional.
-
Open the workspace at
http://127.0.0.1:4190and pair the browser (see Security model).
Where keys come from
Section titled “Where keys come from”X6 looks for each key in this order and prints where it found it, never the key itself:
Set the model key, and optionally a search key (SEARCH_API_KEY: Brave, Tavily, or SerpApi), as environment
variables before starting the server.
Point the same variables at password-manager references (op://<vault>/<item>/credential) and start with:
op run -- python3 x6-chat.py --workspace ~/x6-workspaceSaved keys are read from the login Keychain on later starts. Run with --save-keys to change them.
Nothing is written to a file.
